PRIMARY SCHOOL CHALLENGE

Tuesday 16 February 2010

Now in its 9th year, the Festival is keen for young people to become more involved and to learn about locally sourced nutritious ingredients.  The Festival has therefore launched an exciting Foodie Challenge for National Science and Engineering Week.

The Aim

Since this year’s theme is the Earth, the aim of the Challenge is to help children learn more about their environment, where their food comes from locally, how it grows, and its nutritional value.

The Challenge:

A family of eight are going for the day out in the Dales.  Your challenge is to design a balanced, nutritious and mouth-watering picnic for the family consisting of locally sourced ingredients.

All entries should be in the form of a maximum A3 sized illustration with the proteins, carbohydrates, dairy, fruit and vegetables and sugary and fatty foods clearly labelled.

The Support:

Gavin Swift, head chef at Hendersons, and one of the chefs demonstrating at this year’s Dales Festival of Food and Drink, is happy to assist schools in providing more information about nutrition.  He may also be able to visit your school and speak directly with the children about the importance of eating a healthy diet.  Gavin can be contacted by email at gavin_swift@hotmail.com, by telephone on 01969 663268 or by mobile on 07837207717

The Closing Date:

Please can you send your labelled drawings by 29th March to:

NEW PRODUCTS FROM ONE STOP HOTSHOP

Monday 18 January 2010

I am making some new products this year which are quite exciting - there will be some  'naga cookies' - sweet biscuity treats which pack a real punch!  I also have some great rubs and seasonings which are great to mix with a little oil and rub into meats - gives a great fiery crust.  I will be selling some specialist mexican dried chillies (including chipotle, ancho, mulato and pasilla) and tubs of the Naga/Bhut Jolokia chillies in both whole and flaked forms.  Its now much easier to have a tub of hell's own fire in your cupboard!!  There are also the firm favourites like the legendary Smart Arse Sauce and my best selling Hot Dipping Sauce.
