Leyburn Playing Field

Children's playground equipment and plenty of space to run around and let off steam!  Beautiful views over Wensleydale.

 

The Forbidden Corner

A unique labyrinth of tunnels, chambers, follies and surprises created in a four acre walled garden, with superb views over beautiful Coverdale.  Admissions must be pre-booked through Leyburn Tourist Information Centre on 01969 640638-"First Come First Served"

 

The Teapottery

Come and see some of the dozens of custom designed teapots actually being made.

 

The Little Chocolate Shop

Hand-made chocolates of all shapes and sizes will tempt your palate, or you can simply visit the workshop and see how it's done.

 

Middleham Castle

The home of Warwick The Kingmaker and King Richard III is now cared for by English Heritage and is well worth a visit.  It boasts the largest keep in the North of England and was once the powerful centre for a vast medieval estate.

 

Bolton Castle

The ancestral home of the Barons Bolton has been lovingly restored by the present Lord Bolton, complete with a medieval herb garden.  Dominating the northern side of Wensleydale, the castle was once used to imprison Mary Queen of Scots.

 

Middleham Gallops

Middleham is now the most important race horse training centre in the North of England, with over 500 horses in training.  An early morning visit to the gallops above Middleham may well offer a close-up glimpse of some of the finest at full stretch.

 

Constable Burton Hall Gardens

A large romantic terraced garden with extensive borders, woodland walks and garden trails.

 

Jervaulx Abbey

Wild flowers and herbs surround this privately owned site with the remains of a Cistercian Abbey, where Wensleydale Cheese is said to have been invented

 

Fountains Abbey

The extensive remains of Fountains Abbey and the idyllic valley in which it sits have been restored at enormous cost over recent years by The National Trust and this site is now one of the few World Heritage Sites.  Country walks, beautiful water gardens and the herds of deer, almost 1,000 strong, complement the tranquillity of this special place.

 

Thorp Perrow Arboretum

85 acres of trees from all over the world.  There are woodland walks, tree trails, nature trails and guided tours at certain times.  There are also falconry displays by the permanent collection of birds of prey .

 

White Rose Candles

This is no ordinary candle shop.  Visit the workshop and see candles of all types being made by hand, using home made equipment.  You have never seen bicycle parts or old fridges producing such beautiful objects.

THE WENSLEYDALE SHOW 

A traditional dales show.  Classes for cattle, sheep, heavy horses and ponies.  Sheep dog trials, dressed walking sticks and vintage machinery.  An impressive display of handicrafts, horticulture and homecrafts.  Held annually on Saturday, August Bank Holiday weekend at Leyburn in Wensleydale.
